6 of the BEST Samurai Movies for Ghost of Tsushima (and Shogun) Fans
5. 13 Assassins (2010)
If you like the idea of traditional old Samurai films but still feel like you need a few modern comforts and some kickass action in your films (colour being one of them), then 13 Assassins is for you. This movie turned out way better than I expected, and the end is incredibly satisfying.
13 Assassins bears a very close resemblance to Seven Samurai. In this case however, instead of defending a small village, a Samurai is tasked with putting together a team with the goal of killing the man who is next in line to the throne.
You’d think that the Assassins were the bad guys, except any reservations you may have all disappears when you realise that their target is the Japanese equivalent of King Joffrey from Game of Thrones. The more dead the better.
While it has the proper old-school feel of a traditional film, 13 Assassins ups the action significantly, with excellent choreography, a helping of large explosions and even a touch of (slightly out of place) CGI here and there. TOTAL MASSACRE!
