Hub Update: Added more local reviews as well as some guides

Welcome to our Review Hub for Project CARS: From Slightly Mad Studios, previously known for titles such as the Need for Speed: Shift series comes Project CARS, a crowd-funded and community assisted Motorsports sim that tries to find the sweet spot between the overly complex and customisable dedicated PC racing sims and console sim-racers like Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport.

While gamers have had their pick of arcade style racers as well as mainstream driving games, there has been a long standing gap in the market for a highly realistic yet still accessible motor sports game that was left open when the likes of Codemaster’s TOCA Touring and Race Driver games were swallowed up.

3.5/5 | Pennyworth Reviews Project CARS is a very welcome return of a franchise that no longer exists, by a developer who never made it in the first place. It’s a shame that it’s still rough around the edges in some areas, but it fills that gap for a good looking, accessible but true-to-life motorsports experience without tipping fully over into hardcore simulator territory. International Reviews:

9.0/10 | God is a Geek Project CARS won’t be for everyone. If Need for Speed Underground or Burnout are your favourite racing games, then a sim like this is probably not for you. But if, like me, you grew up on Gran Turismo, where trying shaving seconds off a lap time is pleasure, then you will love this.

8.9/10 | IGN Deep and demanding but incredibly user-friendly, Project CARS looks great, sounds fantastic, and feels even better. The action is ferocious and tactical, the weather effects are awesome, and it’s brimming with content to explore.

8.5/10 GameInformer In a genre where it can be hard to differentiate yourself, Project Cars makes its mark. It’s not as strong as it could be in all areas, but Slightly Mad Studios’ attention to detail and racing chops make the game a contender.

8.0/10 | Playstation Universe Issues with A.I hold it back from greatness, but Project CARS is on the right track with its sandbox career, community-focused online experience and A-grade car handling mechanics.

Local Reviews:

8.6/10 | HTXT Car lovers may find less to love in Project CARS than other games, but what is there is truly exquisite. As the lineup of cars increases, and updates smooth over its few rough edges, there will be fewer reasons to not want to play it.

8.3/10 | SA Gamer Accessible, elegant and challenging Project CARS delivers something different yet compelling. A necessity for anyone that has petrol flowing through their veins.

No Score | MWEB Gamezone Project CARS is a solid racing simulator not without issues. It thrills, frightens and delights. It’s this mixture that makes the adrenaline pump all that faster. If you’re willing to put in the time to learn its nuances you’re going to have a blast

4/5 | GES-SA The game is made for the racing enthusiast, where rather than just trying to beat the game the game instead pushes you to become a better driver.

8/10 | Telkom Gaming Right now, despite being a fairly polished racing simulator, it just feels like Slightly Mad Studios is trying to please too many people at the same time, and in doing so, ends up falling just short of an absolute “must-buy” title.
